Individual, Couple, Family and Group Psychotherapy
Janet Miller Wiseman
The Negotiation Collaborative, Lexington, MA
Psychotherapy is used to diagnose and treat disorders in individuals, couples and families, in adults as well as adolescents, such as:
• Panic disorder
• Post-traumatic stress
• Obsessional disorder
• Bi-polar manic-depression
• Grief reactions
• Reactions to life-changing events
• Relationship difficulties
Groups are available for:
• Divorced Mothers of Children
• Divorced Fathers of Children
• Divorced Parents of Children
• The facts about their conditions
• Explore options for coping and improving
• To accept that they, themselves, are much grander than any condition
• Exchange childhood thinking patterns for mature, thought out patterns
of thought and action
• How to present information in a way that enhances rather than
• How to negotiate rather than giving in or compromising
Our specialized framework helps individuals, couples and families quickly learn how to improve and then resolve acute or long-standing internal or interpersonal issues, starting with each individual’s goals for a shorter or intermediate term intervention.
In many cases, we help people strengthen their relationships through couple counseling or couple therapy, in other cases help them decide about the future direction of their relationships or reach a joint decision through Mediation Therapy: Short-Term Decision Making for Relationships in Conflict. Roommates or couples, heterosexual or same sex, learn critical negotiation skills in roommate or premarital mediation. People who have a primary disorder also use psychotherapy to help them restructure their families or to deal with blended family issues.
Ms. Miller Wiseman uses her training in psychodynamic therapy at Simmons College, her training in the system theories of Carl Whitaker etc. at the Boston Family Institute (1972), and her training in negotiation at the Program on Negotiation, Harvard University, in divorce mediation at the Academy of Family Mediators. She receives ongoing continuing education at MCLE, MBA, ABA, MCFM, CDRC. She has received training and brief psychotherapy from Margaret Fangor, and Susan Tohn plus various systems of training and personal work in Asian mediation to provide a holistic approach to caring, supporting, and joining in the healing and improvement of people's lives.
All of the books of John Gottsman, highly regarded couples psychotherapist/marriage counselor, are suggested reading for partners before, during and after their partners intervention.
